Numbers show wet November

It’s now official. The 11th month of the year turned out to be the 11th wettest November on record according to State Climatologist Harry Hillaker. Hillaker says the statewide, the average was three-and-a-half inches of precipitation. There was heavy rainfall in southwest, central and northeast Iowa. He says Toledo had its wettest November ever, with seven inches of rain falling in Toledo last month. Hillaker says unfortunately, north central and northwest Iowa were drier than usual, which he says has been all too common for that part of the state.Hillaker says the center of that drought area seems to be shifting, but the northwest and north central part of Iowa has been very dry in each of the past three months.By contrast, Hillaker says the southeast two-thirds of Iowa have had a normal to slightly-wetter-than-normal fall. Hillaker says we’re entering the driest time of year, so the situation won’t change much this month. As for his predictions of December weather trends, Hillaker says temperatures will be milder than normal. Hillaker predicts it’ll be a “little bit drier” month than normal.
