An announcement of job cuts on the East Coast appears it’ll translate to more job security in the Hawkeye State. Tyson Foods has unveiled plans to close its facilities in Manchester, New Hampshire, and Augusta, Maine in February 2004. The company says the move will “improve long-term manufacturing efficiencies.” Combined, the two plants have 730 workers. Tyson officials say the majority of the sandwich meat production from the Manchester plant will be moved to the facility in Council Bluffs, Iowa, as well as to plants in Illinois, Texas and Tennessee. There’s no word yet on any potential hiring figures at the plants in Iowa or elsewhere. Arkansas-based Tyson is the world’s largest processor and marketer of chicken, beef and pork.
