Iowa’s two U.S. Senators are joining with one of the state’s leading financial institutions to sponsor a springtime forum on the “economic future of rural America.” Nicky Schissel, vice president of communications for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines, says lenders are the target audience. Schissel says anyone who wants to see rural America preserved and their communities grow should think about attending the conference. The Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines is mutually owned by about 12-hundred community banks in a five-state region. Arthur Miller, the Harvard professor who hosts nationally-broadcast panel discussions on public TV, will host a panel at the conference.Schissel says Miller will be working with a panel of “esteemed experts” who can offer innovative ideas to enhance rural America. But she says the lenders will learn from each other, too. To register for the conference, which is scheduled for April 15th and 16th, go to www.fhlbdm.com.
