Congressman Steve King held a public meeting in Council Bluffs this weekend to try to begin formulating a Missouri River policy. King says the flow of the Missouri River has been under debate for 14 years, and the matter has found its way into the courts. King says Congress should resolve the issue, not the courts. King says he wants a bill that would tell the Army Corps of Engineers what to do. King says he heard from all sides of the issue on Saturday, but he says “we can’t be sacrificing the economic interests of Iowa for the environmental interests that are really a minority voice there.” King says “protect the species — yes — but not at the expense of our cropland.”
