The Iowa Family Policy Center has filed a motion seeking to get the Supreme Court to overturn a “divorce” granted to a married lesbian couple by a Sioux City judge. Some Iowa lawmakers have signed onto the motion, including Senator Neal Schuerer, a republican from Amana. He says the judge was wrong to make that decision, he says the judge should’ve maintained self control and not acted on it. He says the judges instincts told him not to rule, but he went ahead anyway. Schuerer says they want the High Court to wipe out the judge’s ruling and set the record straight. He says we in Iowa don’t recognize a same-sex couple as a marriage, and he says there’s no need for dissolution of that. He says they’re asking the court to rescind the lower court judge’s order. Some would say since Iowa doesn’t recognize same-sex marriages — the order has no meaning, but Schuerer says it’s important to clarify Iowa’s stance. He says the ruling is part of “homosexual agenda that wants to legitimize their relationships.” Schuerer says a judge should know that, he should know the law. He’s not sure what the timetable is for the case.He says he believes the Supreme Court should act swiftly to ensure that their judges do operate properly.
