Iowa coach Steve Alford says freshman guard Mike Henderson is working his way back to playing after missing the U-N-I game as discipline for missing classes. Alford says Henderson has been playing a lot better and has been listening and doing what the coaches want him to do on the floor and in the classroom. Alford says as long as that continues, Henderson will be fine.Alford says he was pleased with Henderson’s progress prior to the recent suspension, as he was playing very well until he got distracted.Alford says he’s had concerns with his other young players too, as they’ve come into games when the team has had a big lead, and let the lead slip a little. He says he’s not worried about the win margin, he’s worried they aren’t playing the way they should be and won’t be ready when they have to go into a close game. Iowa is preparing to meet Alford’s former coach Bobby Knight and Texas Tech in Dallas, Texas on Monday night. Alford says the game was something they set up when he went to meet with night and talk basketball. That meeting Alford had with Knight was thought by some as a patching up of their relationship that had reportedly been chilly. Alford says the situation was overblown by the media. He says it really made it difficult because they’re both in the same profession. Alford says the relationship with Knight goes beyond coaching as Knight has always been very loyal to his former players.Texas Tech comes into the game with a 9-2 record, while Iowa is 6-1.
