Waterloo police are still trying to find out what led to a fiery accident that killed two Iowans. The victims have been identified as 26-year-old Kevin Riley of West Des Moines and 53-year-old Lyla Fouts of Dike. The accident occurred just before one A.M. Tuesday on U.S. Highway 20 near the U.S. Highway 63 interchange. Police say Riley was driving the wrong way in the westbound lanes of the divided highway when his vehicle missed a semi, then collided head-on with a car driven by Fouts. Her vehicle burst into flames. Officials say Riley and Fouts both died at the scene. They were the sole occupants of their cars. Investigators are trying to determine where Riley entered the expressway, and how fast the victims’ cars were going at the time of the crash.
