The Iowa Supreme Court has thrown out the drunken driving conviction of a Story County woman. Back in March of 2002, cops discovered Sheila Ann Lovig’s red Grand Am flipped over on its roof in a ditch near Story City. No one was inside or around the car, but witnesses said the woman driver had been drunk, and there were empty beer bottles inside the car. The cops tracked Sheila down at her cousin’s apartment. The cops talked themselves inside, and found Sheila in a locked bedroom. An officer threatened to break the door down, so Sheila agreed to come out. She was arrested and later charged with second offense drunk driving. The Iowa Supreme Court has sided with Sheila on this case, and ruled that Sheila was an overnight guest at her cousin’s apartment and the cops should have obtained a warrant to enter the apartment.
