It was worth the wait for Rockwell City-Lytton. A year after the Wildcats lost to Rock Valley in the 1A title game they got another shot and this time cashed in. Rockwell City-Lyton forced 13 first half to take command then held off a second half rally by top ranked English Valley’s for a 46-38 victory and the school’s first title. Coach Bill Dirks said he didn’t know whether to “laugh, cry or jump or pass out, I’m not sure.” Jill Johnson had 11 points, six steal and three blocked shots for the Wildcats. She was named captain of the all tournament team. She says losing last year made them more determined and they worked harder all summer and in practice.English Valleys closed the season 29-1. Bears coach Brian O’Neil says it was a wild ride as most of their games were double-digit wins, and then they had to come back from being down in two tournament games. He says most teams would just be glad to be in their position.
