Iowa lawmakers are up in arms over new rules handed down by administrators in the Bush Administration. Republican and democrat lawmakers say other states are using special Medicaid accounts for other purposes, like road building, and federal bureaucrats are trying to shut down similar accounts in other states. Republican Representative Danny Carroll of Grinnell says Iowa shouldn’t be penalized since the state is using that money to provide health care to kids, disabled adults and poor elderly in nursing homes. Carroll says 70 million dollars in federal money that’s coming into Iowa today is at risk.Carroll says Iowa legislators are trying to build a coalition with other states that’s facing the same kind of situation.
