The state of Iowa’s offering parents a new website to check up on their kid’s schools, and compare them with other Iowa K-through-12 public schools. Governor Tom Vilsack showed off the iowaschoolprofiles.com website this morning. Vilsack says you can compare elementary schools within a district, or schools within an athletic conference or even in another region of the state. The governor says test scores in math and reading are listed for key age groups.Vilsack says the website will be a key tool for parents to see how much progress their local school is making. Vilsack, though, cautions against jumping to conclusions solely based on the data on the website. Vilsack says “it is obvious that this is just a set of numbers” and there are lots of different ways to judge progress, or lack of progress. Again, the website is www.iowaschoolprofiles.com.
