Coming soon to a glove compartment near you — the 2004 Iowa road map is being released this week. The state Department of Transportation had one-point-eight million maps printed this year. D-O-T spokeswoman Peggy Knight says this version contains 670 changes from last year’s map. Knight says one of the most visible changes is the new section of U.S. Highway 20 through Grundy and Hardin counties. She says many other changes include the addition of numerous bypasses and many highways that were transferred from state to county possession. There are no more and no fewer cities plotted. Knight says Iowans — and visitors — should pick one up.The maps are available at the 21 welcome centers, Iowa D-O-T district offices and driver’s license stations. The map can also be viewed on-line at “iowadotmaps.com” or you can call 800-345-IOWA to be sent one in the mail.
