The southeast Iowa town of Fairfield is hosting what’s called a “First Friday Artwalk” tonight.As the name implies, the first Friday of every month, 12 Fairfield galleries and another dozen or so restaurants and shops open their doors for people to walk through and admire the art. Stacey Hurlin, director of the Jefferson County town’s ArtLife Society, says numerous forms of art are represented — including sculpture, wood-carvings, pottery and paintings. Hurlin says the event is unlike any other in the Midwest, showcasing at least 20 local and regional artists, in addition to several national and international names. Hurlin says there’s also theatre, dance, music and other performance art, all on display within two blocks of Fairfield’s historic town square. After a year-and-a-half of First Friday Artwalks, she says the always-changing monthly events are drawing as many as two-thousand people. The Artwalk starts at 6:30 P.M.
