This is National Astronomy Day and young star-gazers in central Iowa will be able to rocket over to the Science Center of Iowa for a variety of special events. Chris Anderson is the center’s space sciences educator.Anderson says it’s a chance to learn more about the planet we call home and the universe surrounding us through hands-on activities for all ages that focus on the sky. To maximize your view of the blue, Anderson says to bring your home telescope or binoculars to the Des Moines-based center for the various workshops. Specialists will be on hand to show you how to properly use your viewing equipment and will also be bringing larger telescopes to offer visitors the opportunity for safe viewing of the largest object in our solar system — the sun.For more information, surf the Science Center of Iowa website at “www.sciowa.org” or on the subject in general, “www.astronomy.com”or “skyandtelescope.com”.
