Thousands of new college graduates will very soon be hunting for gainful employment and indications are, they’ll have more luck this spring compared to a year ago. Jim Bretl, director of career services at Creighton University in Omaha, says forecasts call for a hiring pickup of between ten and 14-percent in the Midwest over the next few months versus last spring. At Creighton’s job fair this semester, they expected to get about 40 or 50 employers and ended up with 70, while he says there has been a lot of company activity on-campus, with representatives coming in to interview students. Bretl says he’s seeing plenty of positive signs that this spring’s college grads will be able to land good starter jobs.He says “We’ve tripled the number of companies that came to campus this spring semester as compared to last spring semester…and they all say they have positions coming up and things are changing for the better in their companies.” Bretl says the job market for college graduates is a function of all industries and he’s seeing interest in hiring from all sorts of businesses. There’s particular interest from companies who want students coming from management training programs in all sorts of industries in a variety of majors — from banking to retail management majors, not just business majors.
