A Hollywood actress who still calls Cedar Falls home is now working on her 38th film. That’s a lot of movies, since she’s only 33. Annabeth Gish is in the Florida everglades shooting “The Celestine Prophecy,” about the search for a sacred manuscript in the Peruvian rain forest. Radio Iowa interviewed Gish from the set. She says the movie is a new age-adventure-fable about what connects us to each other and our spiritual connection to the earth. Florida is a long ways from L.A. where she shoots her recurring role on T-V’s “The West Wing,” where Gish feels she has job security. “The nice thing about being the President’s daughter is that you pretty much know you’ll always come back in some capacity — unless they kill you, but I don’t think that’s the case.” The TV drama is about the White House during a fictional administration. Gish says the people who created the set for “Wing” did an amazing job.Gish says walking onto the “West Wing” set brings an “automatic surge of patriotism in my body…you really feel like you’re a part of something that is historical and important.” Another Iowan, Greg-Alan Williams, a Des Moines native, has a recurring role as a general on “The West Wing.” Gish may be best known for her two-year stint on T.V.’s “The X Files.” When the actors playing the show’s founding characters, Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, were deemphasized, Gish won one of the two main roles. She says she likely will -not- be part of the next film installment in the X-Files series. Gish says “the Scully and Mulder franchise is very definitely the two of them which is disappointing for me because I had such a wonderful time, my two years on the show was just great.” Her latest film, a romantic comedy called “Knots,” is due out this summer. Gish recently finished a mini-series called “Detective” that will air later this year on cable’s U-S-A Network.
