Ford settles after suit over leasing

Iowa is part of a 38-state consumer protection settlement with Ford Motor Company that’ll send just over six-million dollars to the states involved. Bob Brammer, a spokesman for Iowa’s Attorney General, says the settlement involves leases for cars and trucks.He says if someone was leasing a vehicle and changed their mind and decided to pay it off, Ford Motor Credit would refer them back to the dealers. He says the dealers in many cases would inflate the payoff amount. Brammer says the company agreed to a settlement after suits were filed.He says Ford Motor Credit is paying 500-thousand dollars to the states and the Ford dealers are paying over five-million dollars to consumers. Brammer says those who terminated a lease will be paid 100 dollars. Brammer says you don’t have to sign up to get the payment.He says people who leased from Ford Motor Credit from 1991 to 1994 will be contacted and have to fill out a simple form. Iowa dealers will pay about 68-thousand dollars of the settlement money.
