The damage is still being assessed from severe storms that swept across much of Iowa last month. Lew Wood, a spokesman for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, says another 120 calls from Iowans came in yesterday (Thursday) alone to the FEMA hotline. Almost six-point-five million dollars has been approved in state and federal disaster assistance for Iowans who had damage and losses in the storms, tornadoes and flooding that started in late May. More than three-thousand people have already applied for aid through FEMA. Wood says three of the six disaster recovery centers in Iowa will be closing next week. The Dallas County center in Waukee will close Monday at 6 P.M.; the center in National, in Clayton County, will close Tuesday at 6 P.M.; and the Independence center, in Buchanan County, will shut down Wednesday, also at 6 P.M. That leaves centers open in Mason City, Marshalltown and Waterloo until further notice. For more information, call 800 621-FEMA.
