It appears the end may be in sight for the Maytag strike. After 20 days, progress has been made in labor talks between U-A-W Local 997 and Maytag with word of a tentative agreement. Maytag spokeswoman Lynn Dragomeier says the four-year contract covers workers at the Newton plant and is subject to a ratification vote by union members, which will be scheduled by the union. Dragomeier could provide -no- specifics. Dragomeier was asked how soon production may resume at the washer and drier plant, and said they were not ready to comment on that yet.No details are being released on the agreement until the ratification vote. The strike began June 10th and has idled between 15-hundred and two-thousand production workers.Union members will vote on the plan Friday at noon.
