Everyone in central Iowa’s gearing up to welcome visitors to the State Fair beginning tomorrow including law enforcement. The Polk County Sheriff’s Department says the Central Iowa Traffic Safety Task Force will have peace officers on duty and on patrol from Dallas County all the way to Jasper County. Starting at seven Thursday morning, they’ll patrol University Avenue, from where it’s designated 74th street in West Des Moines and beyond in Dallas County, on through Des Moines from one city limit to the other, and Highway 163 on eastward. Commanders say the task force will be enforcing all traffic laws with special attention to speeding, seat belt usage, and child restraint violations.
