Talks between the state of Iowa and its only Indian casino will continue. The compact is a legal agreement required for the operation of a tribal casino. It’s been a tough year and a half for the casino, with a bitter tribal leadership dispute that deadlocked members of the Tama tribe and led to the closing of the casino for months and the loss of millions in revenue. Amid the casualties of the uproar were talks with the state which were put on hold for months. With the deadline looming Wednesday, operators of the Meskwaki Bingo Casino and the state department of inspections and appeals agreed to extend it and now have until September 8th to reach their compact, an agreement covering everything from what kind of games will be played to financial records to how the casino’s security staff will handle surveillance. Failing to agree on a new compact could close the casino again.
