The southeast Iowa town of Fairfield is hosting what’s billed as a feast of fine arts and crafts in a free event underway today called “October Morning.” Stacey Hurlin, director of Fairfield’s ArtLife Society, says the community festival offers a wide array of work from a handpicked group of Iowa and Midwestern artisans. Hurlin says they are offering art in many forms, including jewelry, paintings, ceramics, fabric and glasswork. Hurlin says “We have chosen them specifically because we felt their art or their craft is unique in some way, it’s exceptional in its professionalism in some way, the creativity is just something we really want to give to Fairfield as a gift.” She says besides the artwork, there’s a variety of other entertainment. There are children’s activities, horse-and-carriage rides, there’s live music all day long, a farmers’ market and it’s all held in the park so it’s a park-like feeling, not a gallery feeling. The October Morning event starts at 10 AM and runs until 4 o’clock this afternoon at Fairfield’s Howard Park. For more information, call (641) 472-5250.
