Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says Marques Simmons will take over as the Hawkeyes starting tailback. The transfer from Nebraska moves into the spot after Jermelle Lewis suffered a season ending ACL injury in Saturday’s victory over Michigan State. Ferentz says Simmons has done a nice job when he’s gone into ballgames. The Hawks are 3-2 and are idle until hosting Ohio State a week from Saturday. Ferentz says he’s glad to have the bye week because he says they’re a tough opponent and his team needs the time to regroup. Iowa’s success the past few years was built on a solid running game. Ferentz would like to remain balanced but admits the Hawks may depend more on the arm of quarterback Drew Tate. He says the bottom line is if you don’t score points you’re not going to win games. He says in a perfect world they would run the ball more, but he says they’re not dealing in a perfect world right now.
