The Iowa Supreme Court has ruled that when it comes to sorority fees, daddy must pay. James Goodman and his wife divorced in 1992, and he has been paying child support. As in many cases, child support continues when the kid goes to college. Goodman, though, questioned whether he should be required to pay sorority fees and a monthly cash allowance for his daughter. The State Supreme Court says the costs of attending college surpass the costs of tuition, books, room, board and supplies. The Justices say “sorority dues are a necessary expense…to participate in the social, cultural and educational experiences outside the classroom.” The young woman’s father has been ordered by the Supreme Court to give his daughter a 100-dollar-per-month cash allowance and pay one-third of her sorority dues. Her mother is to pay one-third, and their daughter is to cover the other third.
