There is plenty on the line for the Morningside football team this weekend. The Mustangs host Concordia in their regular season finale and with a victory would clinch no worse than a share of second place in the Great Plains Conference, give them a good shot at making the N-A-I-A national playoffs and equal a school record of eight wins. The last time that happened was back in 1912. Coach Steve Ryan says the team knows what’s at stake and how important the game is, which he says concerns him because the team is very young.It would cap a suprising run for the Mustangs who were picked seventh in the pre-season conference poll. He says they believed they could do it, but to actually do it is enjoyable and exciting.Morningside is ranked 17th in the latest NAIA poll and a second place finish would give the Mustangs a good shot at earning an at-large bid to the national playoffs. He says it’s not a guarantee and some teams have to lose to allow them to get in. Morningside is 7-2.
