Mason City High senior John Lee has been named the state-level male winner of the Wendy’s High School Heisman award. Lee says it’s special because it’s not just about athletics, it’s also about his work in the community. The program recognizes the nation’s most esteemed high school seniors for excellence in academics, community service and athletics. Lee appreciates the Mason City High athletic program, run by athletic director Dan Delaney. He says while football didn’t go as good as he wanted, he says it’s still a great school and he says it’s great to be a Mohawk.Lee has a 4-point-oh grade point average and is on top of his class of 300 and knows it’s hard work balancing sports and the books. Iowa’s female High School Heisman state-level winner is Rachel Wobeter from South Tama County High School.
