The group Mothers Against Drunk Driving is launching its 18th annual “Tie One On For Safety” campaign. Iowa motorists are urged to tie a red ribbon on their car antennas as a pledge to drive safe and sober. MADD spokeswoman Simera Reynolds says those ribbons send an important message. Reynolds says people who’ve lost loved ones to drunk drivers don’t want anyone else to endure the hardships they’ve seen. Between Thanksgiving and New Years Day last year, more than 21-hundred people died nationwide in alcohol-related crashes or in mishaps where seat belts weren’t used. This year, more than 17-thousand people died in such crashes, about one every 30 minutes.
