Today’s expected to be one of the busiest days of the year for the post office. One way Iowans can avoid the long lines is to ship their packages with help from the world wide web. Jim Ahlgren, spokeman for the U.S. Postal Service, suggests an on-line mailing program. With Click-N-Ship, you can actually download mailing labels and download postage right from your desktop. You can then make an appointment for the letter carrier to come and pick up your package. Ahlgren says the two Mondays prior to Christmas are generally the busiest days of the year at the post office. Generally speaking, what people do is — on the weekends they fill out their Christmas cards and write on them, then do their Christmas wrappings, bring all their packages and cards in on Monday when they come to work. While today is shaping up to be a very busy day for the postal service, Ahlgren says next Monday — December 20th — will likely be even worse.
