Problem gamblers can now have themselves banned from Iowa’s gambling boats and casinos. Jan Meisenbach, director and counselor at the Eastern Iowa Center For Problem Gambling, says they’re now accepting applications for self-exclusion. Meisenbach hopes the process will help people stay away from casinos, but people have to do it on their own. A loved one cannot make the call, only the person with the gambling problem. Meisenbach says people can just call the center and bring an I-D to the appointment. They’ll take a picture of you and help you fill out the forms. She says gambling is an illness and people need to be in counseling as well. For more information, call the center at (888) 703-2535. There are offices in Davenport, Clinton and Marion.
