Three Iowa men were arrested in Texas earlier this week for their role in two burglaries last month at PHAT Daddy’s restaurant in Marengo. Twenty-year-old Eric Brecht of Marengo, 20-year-old Mark Hanson of Cedar Rapids and 20-year old David Harding of Cedar Rapids were arrested in Laredo, Texas. Apparently the three were picked up on the border preparing to cross into Mexico. Local officials had gotten an anonymous tip that the three were in Texas and contacted authorities there. All three are charged third-degree burglary, and the 2000 Valley graduates waived extradition and will be grought back to Iowa to face charges. A safe was stolen in one burglary, a cash register in the second break-in, both in November. Two of the three suspects worked at the restaurant a couple of years ago. PHAT in the name of the restaurant stands for Pretty Hot and Tasty, and is pronounced fat.
