A weekend accident involving a car and a semi-truck on Interstate 80 in eastern Iowa killed a Grinnell College student. 19-year old James Ewins of Lincoln, Illinois was on his way back to Grinnell on Saturday for the start of the second semester. His vehicle struck a semi driven by 24-year old Derrick Whiting of Ohio. According to the Iowa State Patrol, Whiting’s rig was stopped on the Interstate due to road conditions described as 100-percent covered with snow with white out conditions. Ewins’ vehicle lost control, striking the rear of the semi on the driver’s side. The mishap occurred three miles west of I-280 shortly after 10:30 Saturday morning. Authorities have released the name of a young driver from northwest Iowa who was killed in a weekend crash. 15-year-old Christoper Koehlmoos of Granville died in a one-vehicle crash in O’Brien County near Paullina about ten P.M. on Saturday night. The State Patrol says the car Koehlmoos was driving went into a ditch and hit a utility pole. He was pronounced dead at the Orange City hospital.
