A Waterloo firefighter driving through the city’s east side may have saved the life of an unlucky motorist. A passenger car collided with a Canadian National train a little before 8:00 Thursday morning on Waterloo’s industrial east side. Observers say the street comes down a hill there, and there may have been ice on the road just before the railroad crossing. The woman’s car was hit by the train and wound up partly under it, with the driver trapped inside. A firefighter on the way in to work came upon the scene and stayed with Lisa Macomber until paramedics arrived. They couldn’t give information on her condition but first responders indicated her injuries were not life-threatening.
