You’re supposed to make lemonade when life gives you lemons, right? In the Amanas today (Saturday), Mother Nature is providing seasonably cold weather, so a Winterfest is underway. Alan Neubauer, spokesman for the Amana Society, says events range from eagle-watching to snowman-building and there’s even an “Amana Freezer” five-K run. An ice harvesting demonstration will begin at 1 PM using implements dating back to the 1930s. Depending on the high temperatures, Neubauer says there will be bob sled rides or wagon rides around the villages, cross-country skiing and a Winter Warmer-Upper Wine Walk amongst the many Amana wineries. Also planned — ice sculpture-making and a log-sawing competition using old-fashioned two-man cross-cut saws. For more information, surf to “www.amanacolonies.com” or call 800 579-2294.
