Organizers of the tenth annual Motor Ioway vintage vehicle tour have announced the route for this fall’s statewide adventure. The tour’s Gerry Schnepf says the fleet of some 175 stunning classic cars — and other vehicles — will be cutting across Iowa’s mid-section from east to west on October 1st through 7th. The tour will start in Cedar Rapids and loop to the east, then will overnight in Boone, Missouri Valley and Denison, with pitstops in towns including: Wyoming, DeWitt, Amana, Marshalltown, Nevada, Jefferson, Harlan, Lake View, Atlantic, Elk Horn and Logan. Schnepf explains why those cities are being included this year. The tours always follow a theme of some sort and this year’s focus is the Lincoln Highway, or Highway 30, which bisects the state. Schnepf says the tour includes a host of rolling history, all vehicles that were built before 1980. The variety includes trucks and pickups, cars, race cars, street rods, motorcycles and more. It’s not a race, but a motorcade across the state, giving Iowans a chance to talk with other Iowans about cars initially — then about a wide range of other subjects.
