Social Security reform is the topic of discussion as Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley and other Congressional leaders meet with President Bush and Vice President Cheney this morning at the White House. Grassley says the President may need to change a few things up in his nationwide addresses to get the message out. Grassley says he’ll advise Bush “on some things that he needs to do in his speeches around the country to beef up that operation,” and to “challenge the democrats to the really big problem with Social Security.” That problem, Grassley says, is the insolvency issue — the fact the program is going to go bust in the coming years without significant changes. Grassley says “Grandpa Grassley” gets a good Social Security check but his granddaughter will get a “raw deal” when it comes to her check. Grassley, a republican, is chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.
