The favorites all advanced in class 4A at the boys’ state basketball tournament. Top ranked and defending champion Linn-Mar jumped out to an early 19-4 lead in a 70-44 win over Ankeny. Lion’s standout Jason Bohannon who finished with a team high 12-points says it was a great feeling to get out ahead early. Linn-Mar had a huge advantage on the boards. They outrebounded Ankeny 45-17. Bohannon says that was key to getting the win and says they did a good job of that through most of the game. Ankeny coach John Peterson says the Lions were just too big and too strong on the boards. He says his team played hard, but it was one of those nights that Linn-Mar deserved to win. Second rated Bettendorf jumped out to a 32-18 lead at the half and rolled to 67-41 win over Cedar Falls. Mike Vandello had 18 points and nine rebounds as the Bulldogs improve to 23-1. Cedar Falls managed just 32-percent shooting for the game but coach Jerry Slykhuis says Bettendorf had something to do with that. He says Bettendorf is physicall and runs the court hard.Cedar Falls ends the season 15-10. Sioux City East overcame a sluggish start and cruised past Dowling Catholic 66-54. Roman Gentry had 28-points and 14 rebounds as the Black Raiders improved to 20-3. Gentry says they were sluggish at first and tried to be strong with the ball and not make mistakes. Sioux City East coach Jeff Vanderloo says his team was not agressive at the outset, as he says it seemed like they wanted to stand and shoot threes instead of taking the ball to the hoop. David Ferezy led Dowling with 12-points.
