The eastern Iowa town of Riverside will host the world premiere of “Invasion Iowa” tonight (Tuesday) at 7:00, a four-part show that will begin airing next week nationwide on cable T-V’s Spike Network. Riverside Mayor Bill Poch says the show depicts a huge hoax that was pulled over on his town last fall by an actor from “Star Trek.” Poch says William Shatner came to Riverside in September under the pretense he was going to shoot a sci-fi movie but several camera crews showed up and explained they were doing a documentary of the filming of the movie. They were actually shooting the Iowans’ reactions to the Californians’ over-the-top attitudes. Poch says he’s been sent DVDs of the first two episodes of “Invasion Iowa.” He says Spike told him he should invite the whole town to tonight’s screening, saying Riverside was painted in a good light and that folks won’t be embarassed by the “reality” program. Tonight’s premiere takes place at Riverside Elementary School. The rest of the world will see the show starting next Tuesday at 8 PM, running nightly though April 1st — April Fool’s Day. Riverside claims to be the “future birthplace” of Captain James Kirk, the character Shatner portrayed on the original “Star Trek” series.
