Adair County officials are determining if anyone else should be charged after authorities found Des Moines fugitive Sam Archer in an Adair home Thursday. Archer walked away from a work release program in Polk County last weekend. Gary Sherzan , of the Iowa Department of Corrections, says more information is needed about how Archer found his hiding place. Sherzan says “We’ll be talking with the county attorney in that county and looking at that whole situation and may or may not file charges, depending on what that investigation turns up.” Sherzan says Archer’s arrest was uneventful after he was found in a closet crawl space. Sherzan says “He was captured without incident, surrendered without incident once they were aware where he was at and made it known where he was at. It’s my understanding that he gave up without incident.” Archer was assigned to the work release program in Polk County after serving time for the 1990 killing of a convenience store employee with two others.
