Members of at least 7 Native American tribes will converge on Stuart this weekend to celebrate cultural traditions. Howard Crow Eagle describes what will take place. Crow Eagle says the Stuart event will be their second annual “wacipi” traditional dance celebration, and they’ll have dancers from all over this nation and Canada coming down to it.Crow Eagle says the gathering will be a social event. It’s like a family reunion, he explains, where people get a chance to visit with friends and families they may not have seen for a whole year, and they can view each other’s new designs and regalia and beadwork, which he described as some of the most colorful artwork you’ll see. Crow Eagle says there aren’t many pow-wows in this region, but he’s like to see more, on a regular basis. Iowa has been deprived of traditional pow-wow’s and we haven’t had that many, so for us to be able to do something like this is really phenominal. So, we’re really looking forward to this year’s pow-wow here in Stuart and looking forward to many more to come. The Central Iowa Circle of First Nations is sponsoring Saturday’s event.
