Iowa college football players await their fate in the NFL draft

Several Iowa college football players will be waiting by the phone beginning tomorrow when the N-F-L draft begins in New York City. Three Iowa Hawkeyes are likely to be taken over the next couple of days, defensive end Matt Roth is projected as a late first round choice, defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux could go in the second round and Sean Considine is listed as the fourth best safety in the draft. Defensive back Ellis Hobbs is the most likely Iowa State player to be drafted. While no UNI football players are likely to be selected in the draft, a few are expected to receive free agent invitations to some team’s camps. Panther coach Mark Farley feels quarterback Tom Petrie will get a chance as will tight end Andy Thorn and offensive lineman Luke Stigler. Farley says expects them to be in someone’s camp come Monday. He says that’s all you can ask is a chance to show what you can do.Farley also feels Panther linebacker Danny Tripplet may be signed as a free agent too. The draft runs through Sunday.
