A huge, Monday afternoon fire at a Davenport apartment complex caused about one million dollars in damage according to construction crews. A 12-unit apartment building was heavily damaged, and investigators say the fire started on the deck of a third-floor apartment because someone “misused” smoking materials. David Barker, the apartment building’s owner, says none of the tenants will be able to live in the 12-unit building that was damaged. Barker says there are vacant apartments in nearby complexes, and he hopes to be able to find an apartment for all the people made homeless by the fire. Barker says there is one bright spot in all this. All the tenants had renters insurance, and Barker says that makes a huge difference.
