A spokesman for the Attorney General’s Office says Iowans are continuing to say no to telemarketers. Bob Brammer says over one-million Iowans have now signed up for the national “Do Not Call” list. He says there’s a reason more and more people are signing up. He says, “It really works. People report very consistently that if you sign up for the Do Not Call registry, it drastically reduces your telemarketing calls.” Brammer says you can join the others on the list. He says it’s easy and free, you just dial the Federal Trade Commission’s toll-free number at 888-382-1222, or go to the F-T-C web site: www.donotcall.gov. Brammer says you’ll need an e-mail address if you sign up on the web. He says if you’re calling via the phone, you want to call from the phone you’re signing up. He says you can’t put business phones on the list. Brammer says it appears the Do Not Call list is working the way it’s supposed to work. He says complaints are made with the F-T-C, but he says they’ve heard of very few complaints. Commercial telemarketers are required to search the registry every month and remove numbers from their call lists that are on the registry. Brammer says you will generally get fewer telemarketing calls within a month after signing up for the registry.
