The Dallas County Sheriff’s office has announced the largest cocaine bust in Iowa history. Dallas County Sheriff Brian Gilbert says the drugs were seized after deputies stopped a Winnebago on Interstate 80 between DeSoto and Van Meter because it didn’t have a license plate. Sheriff Gilbert says they found and seized 360-Pounds of cocaine, hard work since it was in areas inside the RV and well-hidden. He says four people were arrested. The suspects are all from Toledo, Ohio. They face possession and conspiracy charges. The cocaine is estimated to be worth 16 million dollars. Gilbert says the drugs were probably not destined for Iowa. Gilbert says it’s part of the law-enforcement job to go out and find such cargo, no matter where it’s bound for. “The drug problem doesn’t stop at the city limits, doesn’t stop at the county line, and it doesn’t stop at the state border.” Gilbert credits Dallas County’s drug dog, Hank, for the find. He says the K-9 is a very big asset, and without his detection efforts they probably wouldn’t have found the drug. Hank and Deputy Scott Faiferlick were ranked as the top detection team in Iowa last month by the United States Police Canine Association.
