Parts of northwest Iowa are struggling with more heavy rain, flooding and potential evacuations. Emmet County Emergency Manager Terry Reekers says many homeowners are running pumps 24-seven with several feet of water in the basements as the groundwater table is still quite high. Reekers says neighboring counties have been helping out with various emergency supplies. They’ve borrowed several pumps while 150 Red Cross clean-up kits arrived Thursday afternoon and are “going fast.” The kits contain things like mops, sponges and disinfectant. Reekers says evacuations are not being ordered as yet but they’re keeping a careful watch on several areas. He says they’re concerned about the structural integrity of several homes as they’ve been surrounded by water for several days. The trouble started when Estherville got six inches of rain last Saturday night and has continued to get drenched since then.
