Some Iowa high schools and colleges are holding their graduation ceremonies this weekend, with many more commencements in the coming weeks. As that season begins, State Trooper Mike Workman is putting out a pleading reminder for Iowa’s drivers. Workman says “Please, stay away from alcohol consumption. It’s a problem year-round but in the spring, sometimes that can be keggers and other gatherings.” In particular, he says young people and adults who are throwing parties should avoid the dangerous drug which is behind so many accidents and deaths. Workman says rural motorists need to drive with particular care as spring planting is underway. When topping hills, going around curves, be extra careful and extra alert as there could be tractors, anhydrous ammonia tanks and other farm equipment. Workman also urges Iowa parents to keep their young ones safe. Make sure kids are restrained in car seats and that the car seats are properly installed. A recent study found nine in ten child safety seats are -not- correctly put in, meaning, children riding in them are at great risk should there be a wreck.
