Your bike doesn’t have a glove box, but there is a map you might want to stick in your fanny pack before your next ride. The Iowa Department of Transportation is out with the 2005 version of its bike map. Kathy Ridnour of the D-O-T says it’s really more than a map. She says, “The bike map shows not only where bicycle trails are throughout the state, but also shows the traffic levels on our paved roadways, so that bicyclists can actually choose which roadways fit their riding experience.” She says the map also has a section that highlights some of the longer trails in the state. She says it provides information about where they are, their length, and how to get additional information. Ridnour says you can get a maps in several places. She says you can pick one up at the driver’s license stations, or welcome centers. You can also call 800-345-IOWA or surf to: www.iowabikes.com. The bike maps are free.
