Iowa baseball coach Jack Dahm wants his Hawkeyes to gain some momentum when they host Illinois-Chicago in their home finale on Wednesday night. The Hawks are currently third in the Big Ten race but could still win the conference title by sweeping Illinois in a four-game set this weekend. He says when they’ve won their mid-week games they’ve been very successfull on the weekend. He says Illinois-Chicago doesn’t have any conference games this week so they’ll probably see their top pitchers. It may be a non-conference game but Dahm says they treating it like an important one s they want to gain some momentum for the Illinois series.Iowa dropped three of four games at Purdue last weekend but are assured a spot in the Big Ten tournament for just the second time since 1990. Dahm says they don’t want to be satisfied just qualifying for the tournament, so he says he’s stressing the need to be the agressor. He says they’d like to put some pressure on Illinois to win the championship, and then carry that on into the conference tournament.Iowa is 25-26 overall.
