Thirty-two schoolchildren escaped without injury when the bus they were riding on this morning hit a truck about a mile east of Jewell in Hamilton County. It happened right around 8 this (Tuesday) morning on Highway 175. The Iowa State Patrol investigated, and says the South Hamilton school bus was westbound when troopers say the northbound truck driven by 93-year-old John Walker of Stanhope failed to stop at a stop sign and drove out in front of the bus. John Kinley is superintendent of South Hamilton Schools. He says other than a few minor bumps and bruises, the kids and bus driver were all fine and he’s grateful it wasn’t more serious. Superintendent Kinley says as word went around about the schoolbus crash, some parents came to the school to see what had happened. All the kids were brought to the school, all the parents were contacted. Some came to the school to check on their kids, he says, but “Other than some emotional issues, just being shook up by the incident,” he says, everybody’s going to be fine. The driver of the truck was taken to Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames. The State Patrol investigated the accident.
