One of two South Dakota fugitives caught after a January crime spree that spread from southwest Iowa to Des Moines has pled guilty to robbery. Union County Attorney Tim Kenyon says it all started in Union County on January 12th when the two men stopped at a house near Afton. The two men assaulted a woman in the house, then they left Union County in a stolen pickup. They were located a few days later in Des Moines. Thirty-year-old Jason Heasley has plead guilty but 24-year-old Justin Mynatt has entered a not guilty plea. Kenyon says they believe Heasley was the “secondary person” in the crime. He will be sentenced July 29th the first degree robbery charge. Mynatt will be tried in Union County although Kenyon admits South Dakota authorities are trying to get the men back in their territory, too, to serve out their sentences there and face escape charges, too. “I hate to say it, but the South Dakota folks will have to take care of the South Dakota folks,” Kenyon says. Heasley is doing time now in Iowa’s medium-security prison in Anamosa.
