A light wind fanned flames from one house to another — to another — Tuesday night in Iowa City. More than one-hundred firefighters responded to the multi-structure blaze at the Lake Ridge Mobile Home Court, where Phil Wagner is the manager. He says two homes are a total loss, two homes had significant smoke and water damage along with melted siding and two garages were lost. Wagner says about a dozen people have been displaced by the fire. Several of them spent the night in a motel, thanks to the American Red Cross. He says other residents are pitching in.Wagner says they’re getting “a lot of donations of clothing and furniture and money.” He says people were going door-to-door right away, collecting donations for the fire victims. One fortunate thing — no one was injured in the blaze. Wagner says it’s still unclear what sparked the fire. He says the fire started in one of the garages but the State Fire Marshal, who is there, hasn’t yet told them what the cause was. Wagner says the homes that burned were all modular and were only five years old. The massive housing complex in south Iowa City, near the airport, has 425 lots containing 390 homes.
